Frustrated Lady Slow Computer

After waiting a few minutes for the computer to start up, you wait…and you wait…and you wait some more. After waiting for what seems like an eternity, your computer finally displays the desktop. Anxious, you double click the Internet Explorer and continue to wait…and wait some more.

“Why is my computer so slow!!” you ask yourself in a quite frustrated manner. You flip through your local yellow pages and call a computer repair company. You set an appointment with a computer repair company to have a computer technician come out to your home and fix it. The computer repair company cannot get a technician out there for a few days and you are stuck with this slow computer. Here are a few factors that directly contribute to a slow computer.

  • Low Memory- Depending upon which OS you have, there is a minimum required amount of memory needed to run efficiently. If your OS requires 1GB of RAM as a minimum, consider adding twice that amount to run smoothly. If it required 2GB, consider adding 4GB and so on.

  • Low Disk Space- When a computer gets low on disk space is may cause the entire system to slow down and eventually shut down. Try clearing out old Temp files and uninstall programs you no longer use.

  • Slow Processor- Depending upon when you bought your system, you may not have a Processor that is fast enough to handle to speed the OS required. Double-check this to make sure it is suitable. Generally, contacting a computer repair company and having them upgrade the processor will suffice.

  • Malware Infections- This is probably the most common cause of a slow computer. Many people do not update their virus protection software or keep running scans. As a result malware such as viruses, spyware, malware, adware, Trojans, and worms can infiltrate the computer and hide themselves. In due time, the computer becomes extremely slow and unresponsive.

Although it’s recommended that you contact a computer repair company to get immediate service on a computer that is functioning slowly, you can check the factors listed above to see if they are causing your slow computer.
