Slow running programs could mean you might need computer virus removal, but you may also just need a software update.

One of the best ways to protect your computer from a virus is to update your computer software as often as possible. These updates are free and available for download (as opposed to an upgrade, which is the completely new version of a program, and must be purchased).

If you are using the Windows operating system, upgrades are easy. Companies are constantly updating their programs, such as adding the latest touches to antivirus and antispyware, speeding up the efficiency of browsers and making programs like word processing even more up-to-date.

To check on your software update options, click on the Windows icon at the lower left of your computer's toolbar, and select "Control Panel." From there, click "Windows Update." This will bring you to a new screen, with a window displaying which software is available for download. After you install, you usually need to restart the computer. It can be a little time consuming, but it's simple, and most certainly worth it.

If you're afraid that you'll forget to keep up with updating regularly, you can also set up automatic software updates, too.

Within "Control Panel," there is also an option to uninstall software. If you get rid of the software that you don't use, you can save space and speed up your computer, so take a look at that, as well.

If, after updating all computer software possible, your computer is still running slowly and the programs don't seem to be working properly, your PC might have a virus. Contact a local Washington, D.C. virus removal for more information.
